Arthritis Sufferers Have Poorer Overall Health Than Non-Sufferers

Orlando, FL — March 24, 2016 — There are many conditions that affect millions of people nowadays and one is arthritis. Arthritis can be a painful and debilitating condition. While it is not fatal, its effects on the life and health of sufferers can be life-changing.

Arthritis sufferers have poorer overall health than those who do not have the condition. Arthritis can cause pain, which limits the mobility of sufferers. Unfortunately, living a sedentary lifestyle could lead to serious health consequences.

In the United States, there are millions of people who suffer from arthritic conditions. What makes this condition even more troublesome is that it doesn’t just jeopardize the physical but also the mental aspect of one’s health.

According to researchers, individuals with arthritis tend to have two to three times worse health-related quality of life than those who do not have the condition. It was also found that adults with the condition were more likely to have mentally, unhealthy days.

The moods and negative emotions people with arthritis seem to suffer from are thought to be associated with the physical limitations, which hinder them from functioning, doing their routines, or socializing.

In a study published by the Arthritis Care & Research, the researchers based the study on the data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. They tried to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of individuals with arthritis and those who do not have it.

There are indicators of health-related quality of life such as the general health status of participants. The researchers also took into account the number of days that they were unwell physically and mentally in the past 30 days.

According to the study researcher Sylvia Furner, MPH, PhD, from the school of public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, all HRQOL measures were twice or thrice worse in arthritis sufferers than those without the condition.

Arthritis sufferers have reported spending more days suffering from mental and physical health problems. They also have physical limitations. However, the good news is that individuals with arthritis who were physically active experienced better quality of life compared to those with sedentary lifestyle.

Today, arthritis sufferers resort to measures that help them reduce pain, improve their mobility, and enhance their overall quality of health and life. There are those who use pain medications to achieve pain relief and mobility.

While pharmaceutical drugs are still being widely used nowadays, there are many arthritis sufferers who turn to the use of natural alternatives such as glucosamine. Glucosamine is widely thought to be a safer and effective natural alternative to pain medications (www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0/).
