Orlando, FL — May 15, 2015 — Athletes are regularly engaged in physical activities, and this makes them highly susceptible to injuries. The good news is that there are guidelines available that can help them protect their knees.

Experts recommend some study points to help female athletes prevent knee injuries. These health professionals based these study points on studies that were conducted to help athletes prevent injuries.

A study found that a simple exercise program that involved teaching girls to correctly land when they run, play and jump on the soccer field has helped decrease the cases of serious knee injuries by 77 percent. This finding is significant, since female athletes are known to be 8 times more susceptible to suffering from anterior cruciate ligament or the tearing of a band of tissue in the knees, than men.

“What makes it even more alarming, is that these injuries could destabilize the knee and this could lead to the development of osteoarthritis (or OA) later in the life of athletes,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

Swedish researchers who conducted a study used 1,506 girls between the ages of 13 and 19 as subjects. They were divided into two groups and one group received a physical exercise program known as HarmoKnee. This program was designed for the athletes in combination with the education by their parents and coaches about injury risk.

According to Lisa Byberg, PhD, lead author of the study and worker for the Department of Surgical Sciences, the program included a variety of warm-up exercises, such as high-knee skipping and jogging. There were also balanced training with jumping exercises, muscle activation, as well as core and strength stability, including sit-ups.

The study, which was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, revealed that only three individuals suffered from knee injuries in the group that received the exercise program versus 13 girls in the control group. Dr. Byberg suggested that the finding demonstrated the possibility that injuries can be prevented. What makes it even more interesting is that the injuries in the intervention group were less severe than those in the control group.

There are many popular ways to prevent injuries in addition to engaging in an exercise program. Using natural alternatives, such as glucosamine supplements, is believed to be a great option in strengthening the joint cartilage in the knees. Many arthritis sufferers who are trying to achieve pain relief and regain mobility are using glucosamine supplements (http://amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
