An Annual Affair presents a D-I-Y alternative to Frieze New York and its numerous satellite fairs with a dynamic and diverse group of emerging artists, highlighting their creative fearlessness.

Frontrunner Collective is pleased to announce AN ANNUAL AFFAIR, a pop-up group exhibition on view at the West Chelsea Arts Building at 526 West 26th Street, #1001 from May 6 to May 8, 2016. An opening reception will be held on Friday May 6 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Held concurrently with Frieze Art Week, An Annual Affair presents a D-I-Y alternative to Frieze New York and its numerous satellite fairs. Curated by Edward Symes, An Annual Affair brings a dynamic and diverse group of emerging artists to the heart of Chelsea, distinctly separate from the fairs’ established roster of artists and commercial focus.

From Nicolas Holiber’s striking wooden sculptures constructed from discarded shipping pallets found on the New York City streets to Alex Schuchard’s intricate, impressionistic paintings of rippling water and Guno Park’s delicately detailed pen drawings, An Annual Affair features artists working in a wide variety of mediums, creating a rich conversation about the multiplicity of art-making practices. The exhibition will also engage with the unique architecture of the West Chelsea Arts Building’s loft space with a site-specific video installation from Oakland-based artist Anja Ulfeldt.

With their range of talents, the artists in An Annual Affair are joined together by their creative fearlessness and cross-disciplinary ingenuity including street artist Brandon

Sines’ iconic and unmistakable character Frank Ape and Pam Tietze’s functional kaleidoscopic eyewear H0les. By launching an exhibition independent of the week’s fairs, An Annual Affair aims to foster an encouraging and accessible community of artists and art viewers.

With an ongoing dedication to supporting artists, Frontrunner Collective was founded in the fall of 2009. Beginning as an online magazine in order to feature the creative work of friends, Frontrunner expanded into a physical gallery space on Franklin Street in TriBeCa in 2010. A collective for emerging artists, the gallery continued to present exhibitions, performances and special events until 2012. Today, Frontrunner showcases artists through pop-up exhibitions in New York and elsewhere.
