15, June 2015: Hostelling International, the only global network of Youth Hostels Associations has recently announced a new partnership with Erasmus Student Network (ESN). The partnership, which ESN says sees the “coming together of more than 25 years’ experience supporting international student mobility and over a century of experience in hostelling”, is an exciting development for young travellers in terms of accommodation, opportunities and support.

Erasmus Student Network — Students Helping Students

ESN is a non-profit international student organisation with the mission to represent international students, thus providing opportunities for cultural understanding and self-development under the principle of “Students Helping Students”. To date, ESN has 13.500 members from 480 local associations in 37 countries working on a volunteer basis in Higher Education Institutions. ESN offers its services to more than 180.000 students annually.

Hostelling International — A Respected Global Network

Hostelling International (HI) is the only global network of Youth Hostel Associations. Located in some of the world’s most inspiring locations, the HI network offers 4,000 unique hostels in 91 countries worldwide. All the network’s hostels meet assured standards, which guarantee a range of good quality safe accommodation, in friendly surroundings at affordable prices. The company’s website for groups is dedicated to the provision of hostels catering to group travel — including school groups, corporate team building trips and families.

Like-minded Values

Angela Braasch-Eggert, president of HI, says the company is very pleased with the new partnership, as the two organisations share similar values. “Hostelling International stands for inclusivity, learning and understanding other people and their cultures, and is concerned with a sustainable future for young people. We look forward to working together.”

ESN describe the new partnership as: “helping young travellers discover new places, learn about new cultures and gain experience through affordable and quality travel opportunities.” As of the next academic year, all ESN cardholders (of which there are currently around 130,000) will benefit from an annual HI membership, which offers discounts in nearly 4,000 hostels around the world.
